PERU AMAZON IN TROUBLE

IF YOU’RE IN LOS ANGELES TONIGHT – PLEASE JOIN THIS PEACEFUL PROTEST!
When: Tuesday, May 26th, 6:30 pm   Where: In front of the Consulate General of Peru 3450 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90010, cross street Mariposa  What: For the past 43 days, Thousands of indigenous people have been blockading roads and river traffic throughout the Amazon  in peaceful protests, demanding the repeal of a series of new laws imposed by the Garcia Administration under the pretext of  implementing the Free Trade agreements (FTA) with the United States The new decrees aimed at opening up the Amazon to oil,  mining, logging and agricultural companies without consulting indigenous peoples, making it it easier to transfer communally-  owned indigenous land to private companies, while setting the stage for water privatization . This result in a government backed  land-grab by large international corporations that often have close political ties to the government. 

Attending to help raise awareness will be Clifton Collins jr (Star Trek, The Horsemen), Q’orianka Kilcher (The New World, The  People Speak), Alex Meraz (The Twilight Saga-New Moon), and Jesse Garcia (Quinceañera),
